Over six decades of haircuts

Originally established as the Palace Barbershop in the early 1940's, Tucson legend Johnny Gibson purchased the location in 1949 after returning from his tour in the US Army's 101st Airborne division with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and the battle scars to prove it.

Also known for his numerous bodybuilding awards, Johnny was a US Olympic weightlifter and owned a downtown gym located in what is now Johnny Gibson’s Market across 6th Avenue.

For nearly sixty years Johnny built this intimate barbershop to be a Tucson institution, where he and his fellow barbers cut hair for generations of families.

Johnny sold the shop in 2001 to a co-worker, who ran the shop until 2012 when Danny Gamez, himself a patron of the shop his entire life, took ownership.
